Omagano Shooya
Omagano is a part-time member of PlanAdapt’s Coordination Hub and a PlanAdapt Fellow. She is based in Windhoek, Namibia and temporarily in Berlin, Germany.
Her expertise lies in climate change adaptation, climate and renewable energy finance, and natural resource management. In 2017, she was being awarded the “Supporting Climate Change Leaders 2017” grants by the International Development and Research Centre. Following that, she has worked with Climate Analytics as a Research Analyst, Climate Change Adaptation where she conducted research in the area of adaptation economics and decision-making support for adaptation.
Prior to that, she worked as working group coordinator at the Namibian Association of Community Based Natural Resource Management Support Organisations (NACSO). Subsequently, she joined the Conservation Leadership Programme, a joint initiative between WWF Namibia and NACSO. This programme was aimed at mentoring young individuals with the potential of becoming future leaders in conservation with a focus on Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM). Apart from her academic skills, she has hands-on experience working with rural communities, more specifically on strengthening their institutional frameworks.
Omagano holds a MSc. in Climate Change and Development from the University of Cape Town under the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI). She is a Research Associate with 350.org and currently expands her expertise by taking part in the ‘Certified Expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance’ course at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.
