Alannah Hofemeier

Alannah is a Research Analyst in PlanAdapt’s Coordination Hub, based in Berlin, Germany.

She has 5 years’ experience working on climate change adaptation and climate risk management, with a special focus on socially-just and nature-based approaches. As impact-oriented professional, she is dedicated to tackle power structures and reach impactful outcomes in a collaborative and supportive environment. Currently, she is working as a visiting scholar at the Urban Systems Lab and Barnard College on participatory methodologies to plan nature-based solutions in informal and vulnerable areas in Latin American and East African Cities. To deepen the understanding on urban nature-based approaches, she is part of various working groups such as the FEBA Urban EbA Working Group or the NATURA Early Career Network.

Within PlanAdapt, Alannah works on the interlinkages of adaptation practice and research incl. action-oriented research, knowledge brokering and co-creation. Further, she has experience in capacity strengthening approaches and has engaged with a variety of stakeholders on the topic of climate justice. In the past years, she has worked for a variety of funders, including ACU, GIZ, ARA or IFRC.

Before PlanAdapt, she worked with GIZ in the area of climate policy and the alignment of different policy processes for climate-resilient development. She also worked for the German Ministry for Food and Agriculture on the holistic approach of agroecology and food security.

Alannah is a trained social researcher holding an M.A. in Atlantic Studies of History, Culture and Society from the Leibniz Universität Hannover. Her thesis focused on the impact of migration on food security in rural households in Lao PDR.
