Beryl Akoth

Beryl is a PlanAdapt Fellow based in Nairobi, Kenya.

She is an international development advisor specializing in project design, project and portfolio management, overall Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), and business development. Her particular expertise and areas of interest lie in financial inclusion and gender in the agricultural sector.

Her experience includes working at the KPMG International Development Advisory Services (IDAS) Africa as the knowledge-sharing advisor and gender workstream lead in The Mastercard Foundation Fund for Rural Prosperity project. Her work involved being the M&E lead for some of the project beneficiaries and ensuring the facilitation of knowledge building and management. In addition, her work as the gender workstream lead included generating insights about the Fund participants’ performance concerning their provision of services to female customers.

Prior to that, Beryl worked for KPMG East Africa in the Advisory Services unit as an advisory consultant. She specialized in business process reviews, review of the implementation of set performance metrics for non-Governmental clients, provision of sustainability advisory services and data analysis. Prior to joining KPMG East Africa, she was the society administrator at CFA Society East Africa for providing operational support to the CFA Society East Africa Board of Directors.

More recently, Beryl was the Finance and Administration Analyst at the Adaptation Fund’s Technical Evaluation Reference Group (AF-TERG) Secretariat. She provided day-to-day operational support, including support to organizational work processes and other support activities towards the implementation of evaluative, advisory, and oversight work elements of the AF-TERG.

Beryl is currently a Program Officer at the International Finance Corporation. She is part of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Advisory Services Middle Office team where she works on the unit’s strategy, business reporting, and portfolio support across Africa.

Beryl is finalizing her dissertation for her Master of Science in Development Finance program at Strathmore University Business School. She holds a Bachelor of Economics from The University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Business Management from Strathmore University.
