Irene Mukure
Irene is an Intern (Climate Research, Innovation and Collaboration) at PlanAdapt’s Coordination Hub.
Irene is joining PlanAdapt to refine her research interests in supporting locally-led adaptation. Her interests lie in Nature-based Solutions with regard to scaling impact of ecosystem-based adaptation and climate vulnerability assessment.
Irene has a Master’s Degree in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation from Universität Greifswald in Germany. Her thesis focused on the determinants of rural households’ collection and utilization of non-timber forest products in the Mahafaly region in Madagascar. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University in Kenya.
In her previous work, Irene was engaged in the Future Rural Africa Project where she worked under the Future Carbon Storage Project at the University of Potsdam. She carried out research and data collection on tree carbon storage in Namibia’s Zambezi region. She also was involved in a Payment for Ecosystem Service (PES) project at Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust where she evaluated and screened compensation claims for livestock depredation while simultaneously providing operational support for land restoration projects by Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and Justdiggit (Netherlands) in the Chyulu-Amboseli Landscape in Kenya.
At PlanAdapt, Irene supports the Climate Co-adaptation Lab processes and is involved in various projects and initiatives, such as analytical work in view of scaling and scalability of adaptation projects.
