PlanAdapt’s Country Chapter Rwanda is looking for a passionate, creative and curious

(Junior) Researcher / Analyst / Process Manager (Climate Adaptation, Climate Risk Management)

PlanAdapt is a global network-based organisation with a decentralised structure spanning across more than 25 countries. We provide knowledge services in support of effective, economically just and socially inclusive climate change adaptation (CCA) and climate risk management (CRM) around the world. Our advisors and researchers are specialised in methods and processes to bridge the science-action gap.

PlanAdapt has recently opened a country chapter in Rwanda (find more info here). The activities will focus on:

  • Supporting the growth of a professional cadre and their skills in integrating and dealing with climate impacts in various sectors, e.g. public health, agriculture; with the aim of shaping the next generation of CCA / CRM professionals in Rwanda;
  • Working alongside research actors and institutions to integrate research-for-impact and knowledge brokering approaches;
  • Providing capacity development support (focused on the skills and competencies that are essential to manage climate risks) to organisations that work in climate-sensitive sectors in Rwanda; and
  • Spreading the awareness of the benefits of inclusive and effective climate adaptation policies, strategies, projects and measures.

PlanAdapt will collaborate with essential institutions in the:

  • research activities, including literature reviews, writing and editing of research outputs, development of methods, concepts and approaches in view of effective, economically just and socially inclusive CRM and CCA;
  • administrative, operational processes to establish organisational relationships and networks; and
  • project proposal and portfolio development.

We are seeking:

Passionate, curious and motivated colleagues who support the initial steps of establishing PlanAdapt and become members of an initial team in Rwanda. We are relatively flexible in view of background and may be able to hire several colleagues that fit into one of the three groups:

  1. candidates with previous work experience in topics related to climate and environmental considerations in sectors such as agriculture, natural resource management, forestry, public health, planning, infrastructure development;
  2. university graduates (MSc degree) who are keen to grow in the professional areas that PlanAdapt offers; or
  3. candidates with relevant professional skills & competencies, interested in changing the sector or career.

We are looking for candidates:

  • that have an interest in and/or initial experience and knowledge of a few quantitative and/ or qualitative research methods or software;
  • an initial overview of the funding landscape for research, training and advisory services in the area of CRM and CCA;
  • that have completed at least the first half of their Master’s degree related to topics such as climate change, environmental management, sustainability, governance, public policy, environmental health sciences and public health or similar;
  • with passion, ability and creativity to contribute ideas to the various projects and fields of research in a young and dynamic organisation;
  • with a strong team spirit and desire to work in a new organisation in the landscape of climate institutions that helps to build essential skills, competencies and capacities in the Global South;
  • with advanced English language skills

  • passion for PlanAdapt’s services and mission;
  • ability to demonstrate an openness and willingness to learn about the application of gender/ gender mainstreaming, and diversity for all aspects of development work with sensitivity to cultural differences and commitment to equal opportunities;
  • excellent attention to detail, creative and collaborative spirit

Conditions and Terms:

Location: Kigali (remote work is partially possible)

Terms: part-time or full-time

Salary: negotiable dependent on skill and experience level
