Nirmal Mani Dahal

Nirmal is a PlanAdapt Fellow, based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Nirmal has over 10 years of experience in climate change research, environmental governance, disaster risk management and linking social-ecological resilience. His core area of expertise climate research, environmental governance, human centered design.

He is interested in working in producing scientific and evidence-based locally-led adaptation to climate change. He is dedicated to bridging the gap between scientific research and practical applications that empower local communities, policymakers, and stakeholders to make informed decisions. His interests also include climate modeling, soil moisture assessment, and developing strategies for climate resilience. He is currently assessing soil moisture in diverse land types within the Tamakoshi watershed, utilizing advanced measurement techniques to support local farmers and inform policy decisions.

He is a visiting scholar at the Nepal Open University and founder member of Institute of Fundamental Research and Studies (INFERS). He has several research papers published in scientific journals and has presented papers and posters at national and international conferences.

Nirmal holds a PhD in Physical Geography from the University of Chinese Academy of Science focusing on drought effects on agriculture. He also holds master’s degree from Nepal and Norway in Environmental Management and International Environmental Studies.
